Musical Gil-galad

So many elves play the harp that I figured I'd give Gil-galad something else, just to be different. Pictured is a Pardessus da gamba, a small(ish) version of the viola da gamba, an early relative of more familiar instruments such as the violin and the cello. Unlike either of the more modern instruments, the pardessus da gamba was played with it resting on the lap. I used a painting found at www.orpheon.org/OldSite/Seiten… as a reference, though Gil-galad's instrument appears to be a bit bigger than the one in the picture! Oh well, maybe the elves use differently-sized viols. They did change over the course of history.
